About the Training

The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences, such as dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs,  political beliefs, or other ideologies.  This training will provide a safe, positive, and nurturing environment to explore those differences through activities and participant interaction. We will focus on understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual and culture, race or gender. Diversity issues also involve the disabled, sexual orientation, social classes and more.

 About the Trainer

Dr. Houston is a Nationally certified diversity trainer.  She has served on numerous local, regional and national boards and committees to promote diversity in education and practice. She holds professional counselor licenses in the States of South Carolina and Georgia.  Dr. Houston is a Nationally Certified Counselor with more than 20 years of experience as a practicing clinician.  Her educational background includes; Ph.D. in Counselor Education, Ed.S. in Community Agency Counseling, M.A. in Religious Studies and B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of South Carolina.
