No One Alone (NOA) Raises Awareness About Domestic Violence

No One Alone (NOA) is established as a leading voice against domestic violence and a strong advocate for victims in the Dahlonega and North Georgia area. As part of October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month, NOA placed a billboard on Hwy 53 in Dawsonville, near Byrd’s Storage to help raise community awareness of the pervasive effects of domestic violence and make victims aware of NOA’s safe shelter and support services. The billboard will be up for three months, through November 30, 2007.

The billboard’s message addresses the silent victims of domestic violence, our children. Children exposed to family violence frequently suffer increased anxiety, depression, anger, post-traumatic stress and low academic achievement.  Through educational programs, NOA works to foster attitudes in the community that violence is not acceptable. The billboard is just one component of Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities sponsored by NOA.

NOA is dependent on volunteers, funding and donations to ensure that “No One is Alone” and “No One” has to return to a violent situation. All donations help connect victims with safe shelter and support services and offer families hope for a life free from violence. For more information about volunteer opportunities or to donate online visit the NOA website at noonealone.org. If you are in a domestic violence situation you can call NOA’s 24-HOUR CRISIS LINE at 706-864-1986 to speak with an advocate.
