PSSF Reaches Out To DFCS Child Care Attendees

PSSF at the 2006 Child Care Conference -- Emilie Allen, Child Care Unit, pauses with Georgia Thomas at the Promoting Safe and Stable Families display at the event, June 13-16 in Atlanta.

As part of its 2006 initiative to raise awareness, Promoting Safe & Stable Families (PSSF) exhibited at the recent CAPS Child Care Conference in Atlanta, which was attended by more than 450 DFCS county staff from around the state. The attendees are part of CAPS (Childcare and Parent Services), which administers the state’s child care subsidy program and gathers annually at the Conference for professional development and organizational updates.

DFCS staff members were introduced to and encouraged to use the PSSF Family Service Resource Guide, which lists the PSSF network agencies, their services and referral contacts. The printed guide, which is available in DFCS offices, is replicated in an online reference. The online version is easily accessible on the PSSF website (see below) and may be searched by type of service, county or agency name.

“As part of our statewide information and public awareness efforts, we are encouraging better coordination at the community level by highlighting the range of services supported by the PSSF program and the positive outcomes for families,” said Ann D. Pope, Program Director. “At DFCS, the emphasis is on integration of services so that all family issues are being addressed when there is a problem, and PSSF is definitely on board with this approach.” PSSF family service providers and DFCS often work in partnership when referrals are made for family support services needed by families and children who come to the attention of these child welfare agencies.
